El crecimiento de la deuda pública, sin embargo, tiene muy poco que ver con la supuesta exuberancia del gasto público. 

En realidad, el gasto y empleo público español, incluyendo el catalán, son los más bajos de la UE-15. Sólo un adulto de cada diez trabaja en el sector público en España (en Catalunya no se llega ni a este ratio). 

En Suecia, es uno de cada cuatro. La hipertrofia del sector público, que según el dogma neoliberal dominante está ahogando la economía española, es una de las falsedades más notorias que se transmite con mayor frecuencia en los mayores medios de información. Los datos, fácilmente accesibles, muestran precisamente lo contrario. El Estado en España (y en Catalunya) es uno de los más pobres de la Unión Europea de los Quince, UE-15. 

Ahora bien, los economistas de FEDEA, los gurús mediáticos –como Xavier Sala i Martín y otros- continuarán, contra toda la evidencia existente, subrayando que la raíz del problema que tiene España, incluyendo Catalunya, es su excesivo gasto público, que –según ellos- ha generado el gran crecimiento de su deuda pública.

Tráfico de drogas, robos con violencia, lesiones que causan grave deformidad, estafas, prevaricación, malversación, homicidios, abusos sexuales, torturas, coacción para la prostitución... 

Prácticamente todos los delitos han sido en algún momento perdonados total o parcialmente por el Gobierno. Durante 2012, el que dirige Mariano Rajoy ha concedido, hasta el pasado 25 de noviembre, 468 indultos. Un número similar al de otros años y otros Ejecutivos. 

El de José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, por ejemplo, perdonó a menos en 2011 (301), pero en 2007 aprobó la medida de gracia para 521 condenados.

No hay diferencias significativas en función del color del partido en el poder. Todos indultan y ninguno da explicaciones ni argumenta las razones que han conducido a cada perdón.  

La ley que lo regula, de 1870, no les obliga a ello —fija, por el contrario, una facultad que se ejerce sin rendir cuentas a nadie— y tampoco lo hacen por iniciativa propia. La opacidad es total. Solo el Ejecutivo de turno sabe por qué perdona en unos casos y en otros no, y no hay forma de controlar esa decisión.
